COVID-19 Support

Cygnet Clinic is open, and our clinicians are here to help (either in person or online)

•  For reliable and accurate information regarding COVID-19, follow this link.
• If you feel unwell, stay home and let us know. We can arrange Telehealth alternatives where possible.
•  Its normal to feel anxious at this time, but even more challenging for people seeking psychological support.
•  You can see us in the rooms, or opt for a telehealth (aka Skype/FaceTime) session from home without special software.
•  Our rooms have low thoroughfare due to the nature of our work and long sessions.  Changes have been made to further reduce risk.
•  Our room cleaning and sterilisation routines have increased in frequency and intensity with high grade disinfectant.
•  We kindly ask each patient to use our hospital grade alcohol based hand-sanatiser on arrival.
• You can preregister your payment details so that interaction with others is minimal - both payment and rebates are automatic. You can simply leave after your session.

• Telehealth can be covered by:  Medicare (under a Mental Health Care Plan), Private Health, MVA, Workers Compensation, your Organisation/Employer & NDIS may also cover your fees for Telehealth. Please check with your provider.

For Telehealth Session we recommend pre-registering your payment and bank details.  This allows you to pay for the session and automatically receive your Medicare Rebate without having to visit a Medicare office or the Clinic in person. Medicare rebates typically clear within 24 hours of your appointment.

About Cygnet Clinic

Cygnet Clinic has been established from a group of highly trained and experienced private practitioners recruited nationally and is one of the largest clinics of its kind in Western Australia.

We are an established practice, with our core group of clinicians practicing in the Midland and Fremantle areas for over a decade. Cygnet is the name of a young swan - The clinic adopted this name as a reflection of the Swan area where our main office is located. Medicare based referrals cover the majority of our fees, and low gap (50 cent) fees are available for concession card holders*.

Please see your General Practitioner for a referral under Medicare for both Clinical Psychologist and Consultant Psychiatrist services.

We are experienced in treating a wide range of Psychological conditions from Major Depression, Anxiety, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder to specific behavioural problems in children. We have recruited a team of clinicians based on their special interests and expertise.

Our practitioners are Consultant Psychiatrists or postgraduate trained Clinical Psychologists or Clinical Registrars

meaning they all hold a minimum of 6 years of university training (minimum Masters degree in Clinical Psychology or up to 12 years for Doctoral or PhD Degree Holders.

Given our profile, we are experienced in dealing with complex referrals and have an emphasis on evidence-based practice. Referrals under Workers' Compensation and Motor Vehicle Accident Insurance are also accepted. We encourage clients to provide feedback (anonymous or otherwise) so we can continue to improve our service to the community.  Learn more....

    * A health-care card is required for concession "50c gap" services, and these services are subject to clinician availability and does not include Psychiatric Services. Please see Centrelink to check HCC eligibility. Please contact Cygnet head office on 9467 7676 to check clinician availability.

Our patient centred model of mental health care

We believe that a General Practitioner is best able to meet their patients mental health needs through a multidisciplinary team based arrangement. An individualised patient-centred plan may be matched to the Mental Health support required (for example a patient may only require a Clinical Psychologist, others a might only need a Psychiatrist, and in some cases a patient would benefit from both professions working together).

Some key differences between Clinical Psychologists and Psychiatrists

    Clinical Psychologist

Clinical Psychologists are experts in providing assessment and therapy for a range of conditions. They are university trained to a minimum 6 years Masters Degree plus a registrar period of 2 years.

    Consultant Psychiatrist

Consultant Psychiatrists are Medical Doctors with further specialist training in mental health. One main difference is that Psychiatrist can prescribe medications whilst Psychologists do not.
