• Assessment of risk and integration of less restrictive practice to reduce length of stay in hospital and increase support from community services

Position: Prison Counsellor (Specialist Title) Duration: March 2012 – December 2012 
Case load and duties
• Role primarily focused on suicide and self-harm risk assessment and crisis intervention
• Specialisation in Borderline Personality Disorder and chronic self-harm
• Goal-directed ongoing interventions appropriate for a forensic population
• Understanding the ethical implications of working with prisoners including working within a custodial system and confidentiality requirements
• Tailoring evidence-based interventions for clients with different cultural, educational and intellectual needs
• Dealing with complex presentations including PTSD, drug and alcohol use, domestic violence, personality disorders and violent offending behaviour
• Working with a large Indigenous population with sensitivity to cultural concerns
• Working with a multidisciplinary health setting with minimum, medium and maximum security prisoners.
